COVID-19 Update: No More Masks!

updated as at 06/05/2022

Update from Basketball Victoria

The Victorian Government has recently altered the isolation requirements for COVID-19 household close contacts. This can be found in the Sport & Recreation Sector Guidance page on the Coronavirus website.

Quarantine and isolation

  • Close contacts will no longer have to quarantine – provided they wear a face mask indoors and avoid sensitive settings. They will also need to undertake at least five negative rapid tests over the seven days that would previously have been the self-quarantine period.
  • The requirement to isolate for seven days following a COVID-19 diagnosis remains.

Close Contacts and Basketball

We have liaised with some associations and venue operators to align and confirm their stance on house-hold close contacts and basketball participation.

Basketball Victoria recommends:

  • Household contacts are required to wear masks in and around facilities (such as pre and post-game), but once they are exercising (in an exertive manner) as per the Victorian Government face mask rules, they can participate without a mask. This also applies to technical officials and coaches participating in the same manner.

Dear Member,

This week, Basketball Victoria, City of Casey and YMCA Casey Stadium have confirmed that basketball competitions and programs can return with the minimum number of persons required, with the following set of rules and requirements.

The following people can enter the facility:

  • 1x Coach
  • 1x Team Manager
  • 1x Scorer
  • 1x Parent/Guardian per player under the age of 18
  • Dependants of parents/guardians. Dependants must be under the age of 16

All patrons must continue to abide by the following rules:

  • Patrons must vacate the facility in a timely manner once they have completed their game/program

Vaccination Requirements

As per their latest update, Basketball Victoria has confirmed with Sport & Recreation Victoria and the Department of Health that it is intended that community sport, both indoors and outdoors, is excluded from vaccination requirements if participants are attending the facility solely for that purpose. This exclusion applies to attendees who are necessary to facilitate the community sporting activity, such as participants and volunteers.

This means that patrons will not be required to show proof of vaccination when entering the facility solely for the purpose of organised basketball, but are still required to complete the QR Code check-in process.

However, if you are aged 16+ and are unvaccinated, you are only permitted to attend the area of the venue where your game/program is being held. You are not able to attend other areas of the facility, including the café. You are still permitted to use the restrooms.

If you haven’t already, you can still register a team here: https://www.caseybasketball.com.au/domestic/team-registrations/

Below are the return dates for each competition:

  • Thursday Seniors: 4/11/21
  • Saturday: 6/11/21

Dear Member,

This week, the Victorian Government took some small additional steps forward in regards to the easing of restrictions. This included bringing the entire state under the same level of restrictions.

Unfortunately, there was no change to the current rules for indoor community sport and therefore the following restrictions still apply:

  • All patrons must check-in using the QR code.
  • All patrons must wear a mask whenever they are not actively participating in the game and do not have a medical exemption.
  • All patrons must follow any instruction provided by CBA staff.
  • 1 spectator (plus dependants) are permitted per participant. This is to ensure that the density quotients will be met.

The Victorian Government has stated that it is likely that the current restrictions will remain in place for 14 days. If there are any changes, we will communicate these as quickly as possible.

We appreciate your continued understanding and support and look forward to seeing everyone on the courts!

Dear Member,

First and foremost, basketball is back!

The Victorian Government has taken another step in easing restrictions in Metropolitan Melbourne, this allows for 300 people per indoor space.

This means the following will now take place:

  • All junior and senior basketball competitions and programs will commence as per fixturing from Friday, 25th June.

Dear Member,

The Victorian Government has taken another step in easing restrictions in Metropolitan Melbourne, unfortunately the Association is restricted to 50 people per venue at any one time, therefore limiting the number of competitions and programs that can recommence.

This means the following will now take place:

  • All junior basketball competitions cannot recommence in any capacity. This includes the CBA domestic competition and the VJBL competition.
  • Monday senior competitions played at Kambrya are able to recommence starting from Monday 21st June.
    • All patrons must check-in using the QR code.
    • All patrons must wear a mask whenever they are not actively participating in the game and do not have a medical exemption.
    • All patrons must follow any instruction provided by CBA staff.
    • NO spectators are permitted. Only players, coaches, scorers, referees and staff are permitted.
  • No other senior competitions are able to resume due to the venue restriction of 50 people.
    • This means that there will be no games on Tuesday or Thursday next week.
  • Junior Cavalier training will recommence on-court starting Sunday 20th June– The schedule for this will be released on TeamApp as soon as it is finalised.
    • All patrons must check-in using the QR code.
    • All patrons must wear a mask whenever they are not actively participating in the game and do not have a medical exemption.
    • All patrons must follow any instruction provided by CBA staff.
    • NO spectators are permitted. Only players, coaches and staff are permitted.

This is a very complicated time for basketball and we appreciate your understanding and support during this time.

With any luck, we will be back on court in a much greater capacity toward the end of next week.

We hope you all continue to stay safe and healthy, and we look forward to seeing you back on the court once it is deemed safe to do so.

Tammy Bower

Dear Member,

Today, the Victorian Government have taken the first step in easing restrictions in Metropolitan Melbourne.

Unfortunately this first step does not include the recommencement of any basketball activities (other than online) at this stage. We anticipate the next step will see us recommence in some capacity.

  • All Casey Basketball competition games will be abandoned and not replayed from the 27/05/21 – 18/06/21.
    • These games will all be listed as draws.
  • VJBL matches for 11/6 have been cancelled and will not be replayed.
    • These games will all be listed as draws.
  • Big V games continue to be postponed.

We are hopeful that we will be able to resume soon and will keep everyone updated with the latest information as it becomes available.

We hope you all continue to have a safe and healthy lockdown and we look forward to seeing you back on the court once it is deemed safe to do so.

Dear Member,

We are pleased to inform you that the following changes will take place from 11:59pm on Friday, 26th February.

As per current Government restrictions, masks are no longer required to be worn within facilities. However, you are still required to carry one at all times and it is recommended that it is worn wherever social distancing cannot be maintained.

At Casey Stadium, YMCA are strongly recommending patrons continue to wear a face mask due to high traffic volumes and challenges with being able to maintain social distancing.

Contact tracing is still in place and it is required that all patrons entering facilities complete the QR code check-in prior to entering and show your completed check-in to staff upon entering.

As always, we ask that you follow any instructions given by staff or supervisors during this time.

Thank you for your complete cooperation and please remember to stay safe!
